Lets say the A's make no more moves to their current roster and stick to having 12 pitchers.

Here's how I would have the lineup

LF- Davis
CF- Crisp
RF- Sweeney
DH- Cust
3B- Kouz
C- Suzuki
1B- Barton
2B- Ellis
SS- Pennington

Just assume those will be the starters in four weeks.

Who gets the last four spots?

I say:

Fox
Chavez
Gross
Rosales

I truly don't think the A's have the guts to let Chavez go, so..he stays.

They screwed up in not knowing Fox had no options left..he stays

Than Gross as the 4th outfielder and Rosales as the utility infielder.

If the A's wern't so invested in Chavez, Fox (especially..don't forget he can catch) and having 12 pitchers, than Powell would definitely make the team.

Thoughts?!

So Suzuki is going to catch 162 games? Or are you assuming that Fox will be the backup catcher?

Fox back-up catcher.
Barton emergency.

They had Fox catch, play rf, than catch again today..so.. I think he's able to do so.

I think they are going with 11 pitchers because just look at the pen:

Bailey
Wuertz
Breslow
Devine
Kilby
Ziggy

They might add Meloan in but I doubt that. That's already fucking stacked and there is no reason to do more especially since there will be 2 lefty options and possibly 3 with Blevins possibly in the mix somewhere. That will give them the option of having Powell in there as the DH since Fox can catch.

Yeah, but they'll probably add in a long reliever

hmmm, what i did in mlb10 is put in a pen long arm (Gio), DFA Gross (he's out of options, dunno if ditto in reality) to make room for Powell. Fox, Chavy, Cust split DH time, Cust as the 4th OFer; Chavy's getting work in the OF fyi...and...

yeah, pretty tricky. But imo some move will be made to keep Powell in the 25-man roster cuz i'm sure the A's will go with 12 pitchers.

There is no way Powell doesn't make the team

I'd say we are going with 11 pitchers. If not, second option would be to cut Gross. Fox, Cust can play outfield (not beautifully but its a 4th outfielder not a starting CFer).

I need to look at the schedule, when is the first time we need a 5th starter? i remember in the past breaking camp with only 4 starters due to having quite a few off days early in the season. Maybe the talk of 7 bullpen arms would still = 11 total pitchers to start the season. Just a thought, no idea if its actually the case.

Patterson's also out of options, so he would be on the team if they didn't make anymore moves to the roster. That would mean that Barton or Sweeney would be sent down unless Patterson's DFA'd.

I hear the A's very much want Buck to make the roster as the 4th OFer. Don't know how much stock I put into that, but I'd like to see it. Gross seems to be here in the event he doesn't make it.

so if the case, then they'll need to deal Gross and Patterson or DFA them and hope they clear waivers. Considering some of the dudes still on the FA market, it's possible those guys could clear waivers and end up back with the A's. Very interesting questions to be answered, but ultimately, I see Buck or Gross on the roster with Rosales, Fox, Powell and Chavez off the bench.

That leaves 11 guys for the rotation.
